Your childcare center
NAP is probably wrong in at least 6 places.

Inconsistent name, address, and phone data across directories suppresses your local rankings. Here’s how to find every discrepancy and fix it permanently.

Childcare NAP audit

What childcare citation inconsistency looks like — and why it costs you rankings.

Google uses citations — mentions of your business name, address, and phone number across the web — as a local ranking signal. When those citations are inconsistent, Google cannot confidently consolidate the trust signals and your Map Pack ranking suffers. For childcare centers, the problem is almost always caused by one of four sources: the center opening under one name and rebranding, the licensed name differing from the trade name, the phone number changing when a director changed, or the address format varying (e.g., “Suite” vs “Ste” vs nothing).

Step-by-step childcare citation audit process

  1. Define your canonical NAP. This is your official, correct business name (as it appears on your GBP), street address (standardize Suite/Ste/# format), and primary phone number. Write this in a shared document — every correction must match it exactly.
  2. Search each directory. Search your business name and your address in each of the 14 directories above. Note: does the listing exist? If yes, does the NAP match your canonical version exactly?
  3. Claim unclaimed listings. Any listing you don’t control is a liability. Claim every listing before correcting it.
  4. Correct discrepancies. Update name, address, and phone to your canonical NAP exactly. Pay special attention to address format (abbreviated vs spelled out street type) and phone number format (parentheses vs dashes).
  5. Fix the state licensing directory. This is the highest-trust citation for a childcare center. If your licensed name differs from your trade name, contact your state licensing office and ask about adding your DBA to the listing. This single correction can resolve the most persistent Map Pack ranking issues for childcare centers.
  6. Monitor quarterly. Citations drift over time. Set a calendar reminder to re-audit every 3 months, especially after any staff or phone system changes.
